One day, as Love was out frolicking in the meadow, she fell and scraped her knee.
Grief was sitting under a tree nearby, and when he heard her cry out in pain, he rushed over to make sure she was ok.
“Ouch!” said Grief. “That looks like it really hurts.” Grief reached down and wrapped his arms around Love. Big tears began to well up in her eyes and run down her face.
“It’s ok to cry,” said Grief soothingly. “Let me kiss it and blow on it.” Grief pulled Love into his lap and held her close until the pain subsided.
As her tears began to dry, Love stared into Grief’s eyes and asked, “Why are you so good to me?”
Grief paused for a moment and then replied, “Because you are my best friend.”
Love responded heartily, “We really are the best of friends! I wish we could play in this meadow together forever!”
Grief grinned at Love with a knowing twinkle in his eyes, “I do too. But after the sun sets, we’ll have to go home.”
Love said, “I know. I just want you to know that I’m so grateful for your presence in my life.”
Grief replied, “I’m grateful for you too. I’ll always remember and cherish our wonderful times together in this meadow.”
Love wrapped her arms around Grief’s neck. “I love you so much,” she said as she squeezed him tightly.
Grief leaned into their embrace. “I love you too,” he said, feeling his heart swell inside his chest.
When they let go, Grief smiled at Love and wiped the tears from his eyes, “Wanna go sit on that hilltop over there and watch the sunset together?”
Love smiled back at Grief and grabbed his hand, “Absolutely!”
